Happy Hispanic Heritage Month from the Cultural Humility Team!
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th and honors the influence and contributions of Hispanic Americans. Here are five Hispanic nurses who have made incredible contributions to the nursing world highlighted in Mary Caldwell’s article for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
Ildaura Murillo-Rohde - Founded the National Association of Hispanic Nurses.
Hector Hugo Gonzalez - First Hispanic-American to earn a doctorate degree in Nursing Education.
Henrieta Villaescusa - First Hispanic nurse to be appointed health administrator in the Department of Health, Education and Welfare and the first Mexican-American chief nurse consultant in the Office of Maternal & Child Health.
Hilda Ortiz-Morales - HIV-HVC (Hepatitis C Virus) program coordinator at Montefiore Medical Center Infectious Diseases Clinic in New York City.
Elizabeth Florez - Award-winning leader in Hispanic Nursing organizations, like the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, who has made a tremendous effort to identify and mitigate health disparities in Latino communities.
