Breakthrough to Nursing
Breakthrough to Nursing strive to promote a positive image for our profession as well as diversity in nursing. Our goal is to educate, support, and promote the recruitment of bright, thoughtful, passionate future nurses. We hope to be not only representatives for those interested in pursuing nursing as a career but also a valuable resource.
Cultural Humility
Cultural humility is an ongoing process that involves self-reflection and a commitment to addressing power and developing partnerships. As directors, our role is to provide resources to further our learning about various cultures and backgrounds. We hope to connect our student body to supplemental information that will transform the care given to patients. Understanding our implicit biases and learning from them, to offer health equity as future nurses, is a goal that the cultural humility directors hope to see unfold.
Holistic Health
Holistic health is about caring for the whole person — providing for your physical, mental, spiritual, intellectual and social needs. It's rooted in the understanding that all these aspects affect your overall health.
Here at SFSU Holistic Health we want to bring in these 5 components of Holistic Health into Nursing to provide students the tools needed to implement these practices in their academic, social, personal, and nursing journey.
Our goal is to provide tools to help with stress, nutrition, mindfulness and preventative medicine through resources including exercise videos, recipes, podcasts and breathing videos and much more, which can be found on our social media webpages (Facebook and Instagram) and newsletters. We want to help you best combat the fight for overall good health and wellness!
Mentoring
Need some extra help or guidance from a fellow nursing student, or just someone to talk to about your nursing journey? Having a mentor can be super helpful to go ask advice about clinicals, skills, when you feel nervous or have any other questions. Additionally, your mentor can help you get acquainted with nursing school and its special ways.
Student-Faculty Liaisons
Looking to reach out to faculty or the SoN but feeling a bit stuck? The Student-Faculty Liaison team welcomes your concerns/thoughts/ideas to provide further guidance and support as needed.
Our goal this semester is to summarize student input regarding communication during the COVID-19 pandemic and collaborate with the SoN to increase awareness and create solutions moving forward. We are so thankful for all your input in regards to this issue.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to any of us if you’d like an update or have any questions! We look forward to working with you all this year!
